Casting a Bell |
|
Collection of American Bells |
| OVERVIEW A bell may be used as a call to worship, to ring the Angelus, to toll or to strike the hours. A properly tuned bell actually rings a complex sound that consists of a series of partials, which form a harmonious chord. A single bell is really a musical instrument in itself, and properly cast, is in perfect tune. Verdin bells are cast in bronze, a mixture of copper and tin, with no re-smelting metal used in the casting process. There is no end to the life of a bell; bells cast centuries ago are as fine today as at the time of their casting.
